In the last two days, there has been major moves made in Oregon football recruiting that impacts next season and beyond. 4 recruiting class, an 18-man group that is not only talented but also growing close off the field.Whether it’s playing video games - Call of Duty is the go-to option currently - or cracking jokes in the group chat, Oregon’s class is bonding during the NCAA’s emergency dead period, which is an essential element to keeping the group together.On Thursday, Lebanon star and All-American Bowl linebacker Keith Brown, one of Oregon’s earliest commitments in the class, let it be known that the commitment group chat consists of more than 18 players, hinting at the possibility of silent commitments.That tease matches my reporting, as I’m hearing Oregon has at least one, and possibly two, silent pledge in the fold.Here’s a look at the candidates - and the pros and cons of their case as a silent pledge:That alone makes him a strong candidate as a silent pledge, but there may be more to the story.While Oregon is almost certainly the frontrunner for his pledge, the Utah bluechip lineman has kept his recruitment extremely close to the vest in recent months and he seems more likely to simply set a public commitment date than to become a silent commit and keep waiting.The Ducks appear dead-set on adding to their current wide receiver haul, which already consists of five-star pass-catcher Troy Franklin and Under Armour All-Americans Isaiah Brevard and Kyron Ware-Hudson.That’s already the best group of wide receiver talent Oregon has ever landed in one recruiting class, but Thornton would put it over the top.This cryptic tweet from Brown is also noteworthy, as Thornton is set to play (and announce his decision) in the All-American Bowl:All American Bowl Gonna Make Some Duck Fans Real Happy .Thornton is a strong candidate to be a silent pledge, but his cross-country status as a Maryland prospect and a decision date set for months down the road lead to some questions.The 6-foot-4, 225-pound outside linebacker has two 247Sports crystal ball picks - both to North Carolina State - but things have changed.McNeill hasn’t visited Oregon since his interest has grown (NCAA emergency dead period), but he’s clearly intrigued by the Ducks.He holds offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Kentucky, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Virginia Tech and many others.In fact, some who follow Oregon recruiting closely may still not have heard much about him at all.Still, the relationship is strong and the buzz around the Ducks’ chances to land him is starting to build.Whether or not McNeill is a silent commit, he’s going to be one to watch.Oregon wants to add another defensive back, it appears, but Bassa may have to do it soon or risk the Ducks moving on.He’s a strong candidate to watch if he announces a decision date in the next couple of weeks.Most programs are willing to deal with silent commitments from top-flight recruits, but want the three-star guys to make a decision publicly and lock it in.If Bassa were ready, I think his decision would simply be a public one.And if he doesn’t decide soon, Oregon may look elsewhere.He’s announcing his decision August 30 and has the Ducks among his finalists.But there’s a problem - and it’s a big one.The 6-foot-4, 271-pound offensive lineman was intrigued by Oregon last fall when he took a visit, but the Ducks haven’t been considered a significant contender since.Burton is likely to choose Kentucky over Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State and Oregon (some of those offers may not be committable at this point).- 5-star defensive lineman Korey Foreman is an Oregon target, but is coming off a great visit to Georgia and is highly unlikely to be a silent pledge to the Ducks.- 5-star offensive lineman Bryce Foster is intrigued by Oregon, but has made it clear he’s wanted to visit Eugene before making a decision about the Ducks.Because that visit hasn’t yet happened, he’s an “honorable mention” candidate, but nothing more at this point.- Class of 2022 wide receiver Tobias Merriweather, the nation’s No.
